Welcome to the Gun Show Baby.... FirePowerrrrr!! Boom, Boom!

Today I worked my tables at the local gun show and it turned out to be one heck of a good day. We signed up a lot of concealed carry students and picked up two more ladies for the "Women Only" class we have coming up at the end of November.
I sold a couple of guns and picked up a new project rifle. Now for tomorrow I'm going to pick up a few more toys and gadgets and ammo!!!!! I have a lot of hungry beasts and I have to keep them well fed!
Hopefully, tomorrow brings more students and customers. I enjoy talking shop with everyone and it's so nice to have prior students and customers stop by and say hello..... it makes me feel like we are doing something right at On target!
We also picked up some new gun work and have more guns coming to be dropped off tomorrow. I am definitely leaving the gun show with more guns than when i got there........ and that is always a good thing.
Maybe I'll have a chance to cruise around tomorrow and sneak some peeks at everyone else's goodies. I do love all the goodies.... "okay kids.... can you all say, LETS MAKE A DEAL!?"

John...

"LET's MAKE A DEAL"

It sounds like the show is going great for ya'. And as you said "That's a good thing". I have a feeling you are gonna busy for awhile. With new guns coming in for refinishing I just can't wait to see how they turn out. This is like experiencing Christmas every day. Something new to be seen on an almost weekly basis. It will be great to start seeing roll in and out.

It fantastic to get updated reports on how the Gun Show is going. Please keep the updates rolling in especially if you bring in any additional project guns. I am sure that we all would love to hear about them.

Take care,
Tye

and so shall it be............!!!

FIREPOWER!!! (this is from the movie "A night at the Museum" [part 2, I think] when the thinker flexes for the pretty girl statue and says "welcome to the gun show" - flexes both arms - and says "Boom! Boom!..... Firepowerrrrrrrrrrr") my helper, Jerry and I say this at least once a day at the shop or whenever we see each other.... we still crack up..... mainly because we are doing it in reference to something totally off the chart!

We are going to a very special gun show in less than two weeks now. We are going to the Slidell, LA gun show and it will be our first time attending it. We reserved our tables months ago because it fills up fast. It is held only three times a year, so the area is not over saturated with gun shows like some areas. Slidell is located a few miles northeast of New Orleans and the show is right near the lake at Oak Harbor. I have been told many times over that it is a very nice hall and that the crowds are good. I have also had others in the know tell me that I won't have much in the way of competition up there and that I should have lots of traffic at my display. I sure hope that is the case. I am very excited about this show. We'll go up on the Friday before the show and get everything set up and then on saturday we're going to amaze everyone with a line up of awesome display guns!
That's right, baby..... we're keeping it positive....."Boom! Boom! FIREPOWERRRrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

We always try to have new display guns, and we do have a few new ones. But since this is our first time at the Slidell show... all of our stuff will be NEW!
I think you'll like what we have on display. On the way up there on Friday, my helper, Jerry and I will be stopping at my range in St. Bernard and test a few AR-15's and pistols out. Yeah, I know! Work, work, work.... when do I ever get to have any fun?
After knocking a few back at the range, we'll head up the rest of the way to Slidell and set up our display at the gun show. I am looking forward to Friday!
I'm glad to hear that you are going to try and make it to the Northshore for the gun show. I hope we see you there Kevin! Peace out Dog.....hahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa

We just finished up at the Slidell gun show and we are glad that we went. This weekend, we met a lot of new people and gave out a ton of estimates and info. On the whole, it was a very positive experience for On Target and we'll be back in February for sure. I'd personally like to thank everyone who stopped by our display and met with us, you all made the gun show fun and worthwhile.
Now we have to get back to work at the shop tomorrow and get cracking on somne of the bigger projects while trying to knock the little stuff out and get them back to their owners. Out with the old and in with the new.
In the middle of all the gun work and classes, we have to work on more project guns for display. We like to have something new for each gun show and oh boy do we have some coming your way.
The next gun show is in Gonzales, LA and we hope to see all of our old friends there as well as meet some new ones.

More customers?? thats awesome buddy, glad that show was a hit for ya. On another bright note for you, ive had some people at work inquire about the work on my beretta. Ive handed out the phone number to the shop and sent people to the website. Also told them all you would be at the Gonzales Guns Show in a few weeks, and to be sure and stop by your table. So hopefully thats some more work for ya.

Today we had a fantastic time at the Kenner gun show. There was tons of people and we were very busy. It was nice to meet so many new people and get visits from previous students and customers as well. Johnny, Jerry and I worked hard all week to get stuff ready for the show because we always want to be able to offer something new on our tables. Tomorrow I'll take a bunch of pics and post them here and elsewhere on the site for everyone. We definately had some interesting stuff, but we want MORE. We'd like to have a very large assortment of guns and items on display at the gun shows eventually. I can tell you all this for sure... we picked up some VERY interesting jobs recently and I can't wait to show you all what we are working on... of course that means more pics and even videos.

This weekend coming has On Target out at the Slidell, LA gun show and we hope to have everyone come out and enjoy it. I like working the Slidell show because of the different people we get to meet... both customers and vendors. I have seen some unique items there that I haven't seen before at the other shows we attend (same way they have stuff at the other shows i don't see there). We're cleaning and oiling up our display guns and are trying to have a few new ones to put on display as well. After the gun show, I'll post some pics as usual for those of you not able to come out and see us. I want you to feel like you were actually there!!!

Today, we finished up at the Kenner gun show and now I'm at home checking the e-mails and website. I decided that i just had to write a bit about the dark cloud that descended upon the gun show this weekend. The tax office decided to visit the gun show in force! Let me give you a quick run down.
Apparently at the last gun show, a vendor, who is not a FFL gun retailer (nor does he sell guns for that matter) was visited by a tax office employee (tax collector). The tax man was there as a customer and made a purchase. The tax man paid cash and the vendor gave no receipt. The tax guy asked for one and the vendor (stupidly) said that he doesn't give receipts for cash purchases so the tax man pulls out his official I.D. and tells him he's a tax guy and wants his receipt. The vendor (again stupidly) says NO on a cash sale. The tax guy consults with the promoters and THEY all get into a verbal disagreement over the why to's and wherefore's. The tax man goes to the high up tax man and the whole tax department decides to drop the hammer on the gun show. Now, the vendor who refused to give a receipt on the cash purchase (who also did not collect sales tax) should have been the sole party affected by his moronic decision, but no... this story gets much worse.
It seems the tax department decided to check its records, because they said that some gun show vendors were behind on paying their sales taxes and owed for as far back as three gun shows. Again, these guys should have been the ones that took the heat for their failure to cough up their sales tax money owed. There were not only tax collectors there, but a female revenue agent who is a deputy in uniform with a gun. Although she was only doing her job, she had a Nazi like style of dealing with the public. I personally watched her stop customers who walked around the gun show demanding to see their receipts. I was walking by once on my way to the restroom and overheard her questioning three members of the public demanding their receipts. I was shocked and had to question this. It seemed to me a bit heavy handed just for the collection of a sales tax. Could you imagine leaving WalMart and having an armed deputy stop you and demand you produce a receipt? It would be unthinkable.
When I came back from the restroom, I stopped and spoke with one of the local police officers that works the gun show detail to ask about what was happening. He didn't much like the situation either. He said that they all had been in meetings prepping for the tax department invasion of the gun show for at least a week. I walked away feeling that my beloved Parish was slipping into some type of anti gun show frenzy. There are many nice people in the tax department and they are only doing their jobs, but are they asking themselves if the issue was "taken too far"?
I was at my display speaking with a tax man that I have had the personal pleasure of meeting once before (he is very friendly and helpful) and when discussing the fact that the tax team was stopping people in the parking lot and asking them to produce a receipt before they could get to their cars, he stated "we checked into that yesterday and we found out it is legal for us to do that"! WHAT???? It's legal to stop an American citizen and demand that they produce a receipt under the threat of going to jail (yes, that is what I was told)????
A good friend of mine is a fellow gun instructor, gun enthusiast, works a booth at the gun show and runs one of the largest outdoor gun ranges in our great state... oh yeah.... he's also a FEDERAL TAX COLLECTOR with the IRS. I personally asked him about all of this and he said "It is illegal and unconstitutional!" He also added that if they were to stop him in the parking lot and ask him for a receipt, he would say NO! And if they tried to arrest him, he'd whip out his Federal I.D. and take it from there.
I felt so uneasy because I had that sinking feeling that Americans were being treated unconstitutionally over a pissing match between the gun show and the tax department and the tax guys wanted to prove that they had the bigger guns... and the vendors and the public were trapped in the middle!
If you were at the gun show and you want to weigh in on this, we'd like to hear from you. Taxes have to be collected and we all have to pay them, but I didn't like the bad vibes given off by the whole process. Things were tense and there was a lot of bad feelings over how people felt they were being treated.
I'm hoping that this is not a new way of the parish doing business with the gun show.

Hell, it's been awhile since I had the chance to chit chat about the goings on at the gun shows, so I'm here now to rectify that situation.  Next weekend, we have the Gonzales gun show over at the Lamar Dixon Hall. Our big news for that show is that we expect to be unveiling our long awaited NEW On Target T-Shirts that will be available to the public. We a long list of people who have been waiting for these shirts and will probably string me up by my neck if the shirts aren't ready by then.  I have been talked into doing two types of shirts and you'll get to see them both soon here in the forums. I'll have pics up shortly. In December, 2011 we have the Kenner, LA gun show coming up..... and that is our home town show. We should have plenty of new stuff to showcase along with showing off our new shirts. Stay tuned, we'll have lots of new stuff to discuss about the gun shows and pics to share. We're going to be branching out to some out of the way gun shows in 2012. As a rule, we only attend three gun shows: Kenner - LA, Gonzales-LA and Slidell-LA. Now we want to attend the Houma, LA gun show and some much further shows such as a few out of state. We can't do too many due to all of the firearms classes we host on the weekends.
