This sexy little 7.62x39mm rifle was sent in to us for a complete refinish. The original finish was not marred or scratched up, but the customer did want to give it a nicer look and change of color. I do believe we can help in that regard. This is the first set of photos we took before and after tear down had occurred. We are working on it at a steady pace but not rushed. Rushing a gun like this can only spell inferior finish... and we are not going to let that happen. The owner, jim, is a great guy and we want to make him proud enough of his gun that he will happily tell everyone that On Target gave him an "A" number 1 job!!!
Let's take a look at her shall we....
The VZ58 had a few more rough spots on it than originally thought. Most people just pass on these flaws but they bug the heck out of me when I am shooting for flawless metal to apply a coating to.
The front sight is in need of some corrective work and I am all too glad to do it. Just like the gas block, the front sight has a lot of metal flaws from the manufacturer. It's less than on the gas block, but just as important for some straightening out!
This is the gas block on the VZ58. I don't know why, but the gas block is like this on a lot of these guns. There are pits and indentations all over it. This where I'll be doing the most work.
On the other side of the front sight there was some impact damage around the pin holes from when the pins were driven in. This close up pic shows the polished areas where I am working.
This shot shows the underneath of the receiver where the barrel is mounted. This area is not seen when the rifle is all together, but the massive metal defects here had me all worked up... so they had to go.
Here are the magazines for the VZ58 all sandblasted and ready for rust treatment. We have one more on the way and they will be coated to match the rifle.
Thanks Colt 45!!!!! I'm glad to hear that you like what we did, but now she is all finished. Here are the latest pics of the fully assembled gun. She's all packed up for shipment and will be leaving us to go home. Here's the newest pics:
