Last month I drove up to Mississippi with my helper Johnny to try out one of his favorite activities...3 gun matches! Now, Johnny doesn't compete in the sense of trying to win a match, he likes to shoot and shoot again at all of the targets on the field. I took my time so as not to commit an error that would get me disqualified... it did happen to another shooter that day. I did find that I was a lot more accurate with my nerves on edge. I'm going to try and dial up the speed as I get better aquainted with the activity. We shot rifle, shotgun and pistol, and let me just say... get a semi-auto shotgun if you want to try this. The damn pump I used wore me out... of course there was a 25 target shotgun stage. My left arm got a serious workout. Trust me, get a semi-auto.
I think three gun can supplement tactical training if you don't let the urge to "compete" against others. Trying to beat the clock is a good motivator to put stress on you, and stress is something we all have to perform under in real world shit hitting fan moments. I'm going to go to the next match and push myself to higher levels. I'm going to work on speeding things up a bit while trying to keep my accuracy from suffering do to it.
Here's a few pics of my targets from my first match.
