Shooting Championship on Jan. 12th, 2011 - John is still on top!

Today Jerry and I went to the range and my brother, Steven, met us there after he got off of work. Of course we were going to get competitive as we always do. Jerry and Steven are always at war when we are at the range. The put-downs and the bravado start big time when these two are shoot together. Jerry shoots very well and usually gives my brother a run for his money and then some. Steven is a good shot and can pull some amazing shots off when he wants too, but none of us are extreme marksmen. I make sure to hit the bullseye every no and then, but my main focus when practicing is getting off a lot of shots a little quicker than the average marksman and sticking to as close to the bullseye while doing so. In other words I have become an accurate defensive shooter.
Today, I fired the fastest of us all and was the more accurate. I'm not saying I am the King Kong of shooting... no way! I need so much more training time, practice and discipline. My goal is to continually grow and refine. The biggest problem we all have is that we do not get to train and practice as much as we'd like and our friendly competitiveness makes us strive to do better while we are at the range.
We all shot a 9mm Glock 19, a Smith & Wesson M&P, and a Springfield Armory XD40 V-10 in .40 cal. and we used TulAmmo .40, and PMC .40 cal. ammo in the XD-40. We used Winchester 9mm (white box) and Blazer 9mm (aluminum cased) ammunition in the two 9mm guns. The steel cased TulAmmo has never jammed on me and today was no exception but I will say this... it is very dirty running and has sub-par performance in my opinion compared to others. All ammo we shot, was full metal jacket target ammo and that is no excuse for any ammo new out of the box to perform poorly. I run steel cased ammo very little in my guns and I'm going to keep it that way, but I see nothing wrong with using it here and there to keep shooting costs down. The PMC, Blazer and Winchester ammunition performed well with the PMC stuff performing the best. Some of the Winchester rounds key-holed on us while the others did not. But out of what we shot, not one jam from any gun nor ammo. The V-10 XD performed the best for all of us with the Glock 19 coming in 2nd place. None of us cared for the M&P compared to the other two guns. It had a nice trigger and we all agreed on that but the fit and feel was not as natural or as comfortable for the three of us. I must admit that I have never been a fan of the M&P's looks, but this is only my opinion and this is coming from a man who thinks Glocks look awesome.... so take it how you want to on that. I did slip on a Hogue wrap-around grip cover on my XD-40 and it did wonders for the fit and feel plus helped to tame the gun while shooting. Next my XD is going to cryo and  the polishing bench for a bad ass feed ramp polishing job.
So, here's our targets that we shot at 25 feet rapid fire.
The first one is mine:

The 2nd target is Jerry's

And this one is Steven's

And there you have it! On Target's latest fun with guns down at the range. make sure you guys submit your range and target pics with a little info on guns and ammo so everyone else can enjoy it! I love to see what others are up to... it makes me feel like I've been to the range too!

Why are you picking on me Kevin? Steven lost out to Jerry too! Only by two shots though. They pretty much had a tie.
But.................
Being that you will be coming down to visit and shoot one day in the very NEAR future Kevin.... I ACCEPT!!!

The results of such shooting challege shall be posted here sir! Pics of the targets shall go up for all to see! The way I look at it is... if I win, I can say you need more practice, but if you win, I can say I have taught you well!
It's win win for me!

Bring your pistol and some ammo the next time you come, we'll stop at the inddor range on our way to shoot rifles.

Don't worry about me sweetheart, I'm staying on top. I don't know if ya noticed, but I ain't been letting the rust settle in. I was challenged the other day and used your "old" Springfield XD to wipe a smug grin off my enemy's face. Bring your "A" game baby... ya gonna need it!
