I picked up a Remington bolt-action over the weekend. It's a new gun and has never had a shot fired through it other than the factory test shot. It's a model 710 which is a more affordable hunting version of the 700. It was designed be have less moving parts and be affordable enough for anyone to own one. I am familiar with Remington's newest series, the 770 rifles, and the 710 is built similar, but slightly better in my opinion.
I got the rifle on Saturday and finished it today (Tuesday). I gave it a nice little makeover because i didn't care much for the "gray" only stock. My rifle came with a different scope that what Remington packaged it with. Mine has a BSA cope with up to 9 power and an illuminated reticle. It also had a rubber padded sling attached.
This is how the rifle looked when I first got it (picture is of a stock 710 with no sling)
By Monday evening, this is what I had the Remington looking like.
I also installed a Harris clone bi-pod.
Originally I wanted to make the stock solid OD Green, but at the last minute I decided to go with a snakeskin finish that I think looks somewhat python-like.
On Tuesday (today) when I got to the shop, I decided to go a bit forther with the scheme of this gun. I wanted to touch on the bolt, scope rings and the scope itself. The patient went right back into surgery for another round of beautification.
This is a blurry shot of what the scope looked like after prep and coating. This was the coyote tan base coat.
Here's a pic of the bolt after the last coat of KG Industries' Dark earth was applied.
