Range time with the chronograph!

We were at the range on 9/23/2010 and after our fun shooting, Kevin and I had to work. Dang it! We had to work with guns and shoot them.... it was sooooo hard and laborous. Oh well, it's a dirty job and someboday has to do it. We wanted to test some "Special" rounds and compare them to their out of the box counterparts. The chronograph showed us that we are on the right track with what we are researching and devoloping at On Target. The results we got were very positive, so we are going to perform another batch of shooting rounds through the chronograph soon. We still have a lot of work to do with R&D and batch testing, but I believe the end result of all this hard WORK is going to pay off. We'll even be handing out some of our NEW ammo to a few select people for reviews and opinions.

Me and Pokey getting things set up with the Chronograph, meter and printer.

What a beautiful sight! This is the view I had to shoot through.

Launching lead and taking notes. I'm shooting a test batch through a Beretta PX4 Storm while Kevin records the data.

Old Bin Laden didn't like my bench rest shooting very much, but I sure did enjoy venting his little sheet wrapped head.

John...

You have my interest piqued. When you talk about "another batch of shooting rounds" and "more R&D" are you talking about ammo you are loading at the shop? Now that would really interest me. Especially when you talk about "handing out some of our NEW ammo to a few select people". Now I am even more interested when I saw the type of groups shot through "Bin Ladens" head. Damn good shooting I must say. I will hold tight to get the listed results of the ammo and it would be great to see reports on velocity, pressure if possible, standard deviation and energy. I must say you really do have to much fun in the job you do.

Take care and much more good shooting for all,
Tye

I don't think I ever mentioned it to you Tye, but we are a licensed ammunition manufacturer. We are testing something new to the market and this is our 1st test for comparing one to another. We have many more final steps and tests to go through before we can do or say much about it. This shoot was only to investigate one aspect of what we are developing and I may say that the results were positive enough to move on to the next phase. One other things I can say is that we will offer this in both rifle and pistol calibers when we dish out test batches to a few lucky people.

I have to say that you did not tell me that you were a licensed ammunition manufacturer. You just seem to be full of surprises. So here I am thinking just about everything that can be done with ammo has been done with ammo and here you are with something special up your sleeve.  I do wonder what slant you have come up with to make something special with the ammunition that is currently available today. But I guess if I knew what you had going then it would not be a secret. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Take care

We have a bit more to do with R&D side of things, but I personally can't wait until we start giving out test batches of what we are working on!

I don't know what calibers you are loading for but if you think I might be of help in this I would be more than happy to assist you in your testing phase. I don't have a chronograph at this time but that is an item I have been thinking about getting for some time.

Where I might assist the greatest is in testing 9mm, 40 S&W and .357 SIG. I have a Beretta 92FS and a Browning Hi Power capable of shooting all three calibers. I would be taking one variable out of the picture by using the same basic frame and only changing the barrel and slide if necessary. I also have shorter barreled 9mm's and .40 S&W.

Give a yell if you feel I can help in any way.

Thank ya'. I enjoy testing out new things and when it is something that has to do with firearms, that only makes it that much better.

It's not so much as being left out as being chosen. I just hope the information I can supply will be enough to be used. I really wish I had a chronograph so that I can report on the velocities, differences in velocities and standard deviation of the ammunition supplied. Being able to use one gun for various calibers is a plus. That and having barrels that are ported and those that are not should give interesting results. But without the chronograph a lot of the information will just not be there. But I will be able to test the ammo in various weapons with various barrel lengths and will do my best in reporting how well and how accurate the ammo is in numerous weapons. I can only hope that is good enough.

Tye- i think that came out a little different than i was hoping for. i mainly just put it out to give john a hard time. i to, do not have a chrono but im hoping that maybe john will just take "part ownership" on a few of my guns and use them to see how they perform in different weapons. at least he better if he knows whats good for him!!

If anything it was in the way I read it. I need to remember John and yourself enjoy busting each others balls.

Actually you have a good idea and if I could supply my John with my guns I would do the same. I will totally enjoy being able to do the ammo testing and will be sure to convey what information I can gather. But having a Chronograph will supply data that can be absolutly useful in making a decision that might be just the thing John may need to come to a very important conclusion. But between you and I we can aid with information about how the ammo functions and obtain information about accuracy in multiple weapons. To get data obtained through as many guns you can allows the ammo manufacturer a clue as to what to expect across the board. John does not have access to testing facilities and with us obtaining the data will make it easier for John to make a decision where to go in the final stgeps with a particular batch. It will be great to be a part of it.

Take care,
Tye
